No surprise here! Florida remains the #1 destination for people to move to, but did you ever wonder where they are coming from? The following information is based on a new migration study by LendingTree. From October 2016 to October 2017, LendingTree analyzed purchase mortgage loan requests and looked at the percentage of buyers that wanted to move to another state.
While Florida ranked #1, there were some other states that were also very popular, most of them being in the South. According to LendingTree, buyers are attracted to the South for the strong jobs market, economic growth and of course the lower cost of living. The most popular states were:
•Florida
•South Carolina
•Delaware
•North Carolina
•Georgia
I found some of the maps fascinating, for the full article click HERE.
I know from working with people buying and selling real estate here in the Venice and Nokomis area, that I believe this article is definitely accurate. Most of the people I work with come from the states mentioned in the article. I believe that study only looks at buyers that are moving between places within the U.S. However, here in Sarasota County, around 20% of sales are from foreign buyers. I can say with certainty, that if the study took foreign buyers into account, Canada would be the #1 point of origin of foreign buyers. I wouldn't be surprised if buyers from the Ontario, Canada region outnumbered the amount of buyers coming from some of the various states!
